Το επιχείρημα “Δεν υπάρχει ηθική κατανάλωση στον καπιταλισμό” πολλές φορές δίνεται ως ισοπεδωτική απάντηση σε οποιαδήποτε κριτική καταναλωτικών επιλογών. Δεν μπορεί να υπάρξει πραγματικά ηθική κατανάλωση σε ένα ριζικά ανήθικο και βίαιο οικονομικό σύστημα, αλλά μια αντισπισιστική ανάλυση του εν λόγω επιχειρήματος υποδεικνύει τις προβληματικές πτυχές του. Η βολική και λανθασμένη αφήγηση που προάγει απαλλάσσει τα άνθρωπα από την ατομική και κοινωνική ευθύνη της επιλογής μας να θεωρούμε τα μη ανθρώπινα ζώα ως κατώτερες υπάρξεις, και συνεπώς να δρούμε και να συμπεριφερόμαστε ανάλογα.
Η ομάδα Ερεβίδες οργανώνει παρουσίαση-συζήτηση βασισμένη στην μετάφρασή μας του κεφαλαίου “Δεν υπάρχει ηθική κατανάλωση στον καπιταλισμό” από το βιβλίο “How to Unite the Left on Animals” του John Tallent.
Η μετάφραση τυπώθηκε σε μορφή μπροσούρας από το Faura Books και θα είναι διαθέσιμη στο χώρο της παρουσίασης.

Ethical consumption in a capitalist reality: An antispeciesist approach
“There is no ethical consumption under capitalism” is an argument often used as a “gotcha” response to any critique on consumer choices. Indeed, truely “moral” or “ethical” consumption is not something feasible within a fundamentally immoral and violent economic system. However, an antispeciesist analysis of this argument points to its various problematic aspects: it promotes a convenient and flawed narrative which absolves humans of our individual and collective decision to regard non-human animals as inferior beings, and therefore to act and behave accordingly towards them.
The Erebidae assembly is organising a presentation-discussion based on the group’s translation of the chapter “There is no ethical consumption under capitalism” from the book “How to Unite the Left on Animals” by John Tallent.
